RANDOLPH TWP. -- Each month, the Randolph YMCA hosts a birthday party for members 80 and older.

This month’s celebration, however, was exceptionally special.

This February marked a very special birthday because the Y had their first centenarian.

Her name is Elizabeth “Libby” Shephard, who turned 100 on Feb. 6.

Shephard has been an active member of the Randolph YMCA for over 30 years.

She is originally from Washington in Warren County, where she attended Washington High School.

She later went to receive her bachelor’s degree at Churchman Business College in Pennsylvania.

After college, she worked as a secretary at various businesses, the final one being at Warner Lambert.

She was married in 1949 to Jim Shephard. They were happily married for 47 years until he passed away in 1997.

They have one child, Ernest, who resides in Ohio.

Shephard is currently an active member of the Mine Hill Presbyterian Church.

Friends describe her as always cheerful and positive, and she says she looks forward to many more years at the Randolph YMCA.

She now resides at Sunrise in Randolph.
