Our Summer Day Camp is designed for children ages 2.5-13, with age-appropriate activities tailored to each group. Whether your child is a beginner or experienced in certain activities, they’ll find something to challenge and inspire them.

Our AM Care program provides a safe, fun, and relaxing environment for your child before their camp day begins. Designed for early arrivals, AM Care ensures that your child is well-cared for as they start their day. They’ll have the opportunity to engage in quiet activities such as arts and crafts, games, reading, or group play while waiting for the official start of camp. It’s the perfect way to ease into a day of adventure, and helps parents who need a flexible drop-off option. With friendly, attentive staff members, AM Care guarantees a positive, stress-free start to your child’s camp experience.

AM CARE HOURS 7:30-8:45 am

Our PM Care program offers a safe, enjoyable, and calm environment for your child after their camp day ends. Perfect for parents who need extended care, PM Care provides a relaxing time with activities such as quiet games, arts and crafts, reading, or light outdoor play. Your child can unwind and enjoy the remaining hours of their day in a structured yet fun atmosphere. With our caring and attentive staff, PM Care ensures a smooth transition from camp to home, giving both parents and children peace of mind.

2 1/2–5 years old and must be fully potty-trained

Our Pre-K Camp provides your child with the opportunity to socialize, explore, and develop new skills. Pre-K Camp fosters curiosity, encourages teamwork, and supports developmental milestones such as motor skills, language, and emotional expression.

What are the camp hours? Normal camp hours are 9:00 am-4:00 pm. AM (7:30-9:00 am) & PM (4:00-5:30 pm) Care is available for an additional fee.

How do I know which camp to register my child for? We recommend registering for the grade they are entering in September 2025.

How often will my camper swim? Campers will swim 2 times per week. Adventure camp will have 1 additional day of swim each week at Hackettstown Pool.

What is the refund policy?

• Deposits are NON-Refundable.
• Before May 15th, 50% refund less the deposits paid
• Between May 15th through June 15th, 25% refund less the deposits paid
• After June 16, no refunds

NJ STATE LICENSED PROGRAM Summer Horizons Day Camp is mandated and inspected by the State of NJ Department of Health and adheres to all NJ DOH Youth Camp Safety Standards.

CAMP HEALTH INFORMATION There is a certified NJREMT (New Jersey Registered Emergency Medical Technician) on site during the camp day. All camp staff are Professional Level certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. All campers must have up to date immunization records and completed Health History and Medication Administration (if the camper has prescription medications) forms submitted to debbie@wmaymca.org within 5 days of camp registration.

CAMP STAFFING RATIOS & GROUP NAMES: Groups are designated by the grade they will be entering in the fall of the upcoming school year.

• 2.5-5 (Kdg) Years Old    7:1 With a minimum of 2 staff. 14 campers in each group. 1 Adult counselor and 1 Jr. Counselor. For every 7 additional campers add 1 additional adult counselor.
• 1^ST – 7^TH Grade    10: 1 With a minimum of 2 staff. 20 campers in each group. 1 Adult counselor and 1 Jr. Counselor. For every 10 additional campers add 1 additional adult counselor.

Your camper’s group is determined by the grade they will be entering in the Fall of 2025.

• 2.5 – Kindergarten

CAMP TIMES

• Early AM Care; 7:30 am –  am (additional fees apply)
• Afternoon PM Care: 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm (additional fees apply)

Regular Camp Day 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Parents may begin dropping off at 8:45 am for the regular camp day.

What if my child has an IEP? At the Y, we are here to help each child reach their individual goals, based on their personal needs.  We know some children require alternative support and expectations to help them do their best every day.  It is so important that we work with you and your child to learn more about what they need.  If your child has an IEP, IFSP or 504 plan, please share that with the director so that we can help ensure a smooth transition for your child and they can thrive in summer camp! 

What field trips does my camper go on? All camp day trips are chosen by age and location. PREK/KDG CAMPERS DO NOT GO ON FIELD TRIPS.

What methods of communication will the Y staff use? Our camp director and staff understand the importance of transparency when it comes to your camper and how they are doing in camp. Should there be a need to share information regarding your camper's daily experience, we may use these resources:

• FYI forms; a short note to inform you if your child had a over the top great day, a non-emergent injury, a difficult time managing behavior, or any other general pertinent camp information.
• Behavioral Management Notification forms; a form indicating which behavioral violations that occurred with a brief description.
• Phone calls
• Emails
• In-person meetings; by appointment only

What if there is an emergency at camp? Our camp director and Y staff have an extensive Emergency Action Plan which will be executed for any emergency situation.

For medical emergencies, we have a certified NJREMT on our camp staff and will be on-site to handle any serious medical emergencies. Our camp staff are certified by the American Red Cross in Professional Level CPR/AED with First Aid and are equipped to handle any medical emergency. 

Should we have an emergency that requires us to move to a safe off-site location, that location will be (TBD).

BUSING All campers attending day field trips will travel on a NJ State and Inspected School type bus with 3-pt seatbelts (with shoulder harness). All bus drivers are NJ State commercial licensed (Class B or A) drivers with a Passenger and School Bus Endorsement, have a valid NJ Medical Examiner’s Certificate, and adhere to all required random drug & alcohol testing and all other requirements as per the FMCSA and DOT. All buses are inspected daily (pre-trip & post-trip) to ensure the safety of the vehicle and its passengers.

LUNCH & SNACKS Campers need to bring lunch and snacks from home. We recommend an insulated lunch box (unless otherwise indicated in the weekly newsletter) with ice packs to keep food fresh. We do not have the ability to refrigerate food. Campers may participate in the optional Pizza Friday lunch. All AM & PM Extended Care participants are offered a pre-packaged snack by the Y staff. Some examples of the pre-packaged snack are Belvita crackers, Nutri-Grain bar, Goldfish crackers, and pretzels.

WATER Campers NEED TO bring a refillable water bottle each day. We recommend a steel wall bottle that does not leak. This will help beverages to stay cool during the day. There are water refill stations around the camp and inside the YMCA. Campers take frequent water breaks and are required to always bring their water bottle with them (except on the pool deck).

SWIM Campers will swim 2 times per week. Adventure camp will have some swim days at Hackettstown Pool. Swim days and times will be in the Daily Schedule.

Purple- The child will start to learn side breathing with their front crawl. Also, the child will learn backstroke. By learning these two strokes, it will help them develop their endurance and learn how to tread water.

Grades 1 & 2:

This is where the child will learn to independently do front crawl with rolls to their back, kicking on their back, back floats, and elementary backstroke.

YMCA Financial Assistance- Complete the Financial Assistance Application from our website: www.wmaymca.org  It can be found under the “About” tab. The application must be submitted via email with the required documentation to our camp accountant, Debbie Popek debbie@wmaymca.org.

We do not stack financial assistance packages.

How do I register my child for camp?

• Go to our website: www.wmaymca.org.
• Go to the “Programs” drop down tab.
• Click on the top option “Summer Camp”.
• Click on the purple Register button on the left side of the page.
• Then follow the prompts.

DEPOSITS A weekly deposit of $75 per week is due at the time of registration to hold your camper’s spot and will be applied to your weekly tuition rate.

What do I do if I need to change my weeks, and I have already registered?

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED FOR CAMP AND NEED TO MAKE CHANGES, THEY MUST BE SUBMITTED VIA EMAIL to debbie@wmaymca.org with a minimum of 2 weeks advance notice.

Change requests will not be accepted over the phone.

Whether you’re looking to hone your athletic abilities or explore new hobbies, our add-on camps offer expert instruction and a chance to really master your passion.

Specialty Camp Add-On Prices

Every Monday of each session, all campers will be swim tested to evaluate their swim ability.  Swimmers will be assigned a wrist band color to designate their level.  This will allow the staff to group swimmers by ability and to provide quality instruction.  During the summer the campers will be working to improve their skills while having fun in the pool!  Our goal is to help all campers become safe and confident swimmers.
