ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP — Vincent Price was nowhere to be seen, but more than a few ghouls strutted their stuff at the Rockaway Townsquare mall Saturday.

A flash mob of zombies lurching and dancing to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is already making its way across social media thanks to a YouTube video of the ghoulish event.

Kathy Lamia, a dance instructor at the Randolph YMCA, said the flash mob sprung off of the YMCA's fourth annual Thrillerween event on Oct. 26. Dance instructors Janel Morrissey and Margie Mitchell taught the "Thriller" dance to two classes this October and put on a show at the YMCA at the end of the month, Lamia said.

Thrillerween, which is open to the public, takes place concurrently with "Thrill the World" — a worldwide event where dancers perform "Thriller" at the same time across the globe despite time zones, Lamia said.

One of the goals of the event, Lamia said, is to get as many people dancing "Thriller" at the same time throughout the world as possible.

Not all of the dancers had had enough of "Thriller" by the end of Thrillerween, Lamia said. So a few of them showed up at the mall Saturday evening still in their zombie makeup and put on the impromptu performance for mall-goers, she said.
