At the YMCA, we strive to maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive fitness environment for all members. To ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment, please follow these policies:
Age Guidelines

- Members aged 14 & over have access to the Cardio Room and Lower-Level Fitness Area. No one under the age of 14 may be in those areas except for the following:
- Members ages 12-13 are REQUIRED TO COMPLETE Youth Passport to gain access to the Cardio Room and Lower-Level Fitness Area without supervision. A BLUE band will be given to the participant, which must be worn.
- Members ages 10 & 11 are REQUIRED TO COMPLETE Youth Passport to gain access to the Cardio and Lower-Level Fitness Area and must be within arm’s length and directly supervised by 18+ parent or legal guardian at all times. A RED band will be given to the participant that must be worn.
- No one under the age of 10 is allowed in the Lower Level or Cardio Room under any circumstances unless they are participating in a program under the guidance of a staff member.
- No guests under the age of 14 can use the Cardio Room and Lower-Level Fitness Area
Conduct & Etiquette

- Respect the rights of others by using courteous and appropriate behavior
- Please refrain from cell phone usage. Take your phone calls to the lobby or outside
- Rack your weights when using free weights or other movable equipment
- Return them to their proper place at the end of your workout
- Strip bars and return plates to storage racks
- Wipe down the equipment with a paper towel when finished
- Please spray a paper towel with the sanitizer provided and wipe down equipment after use
WEST MORRIS AREA YMCA CODE OF CONDUCT
The West Morris Area YMCA is a nonprofit organization that embraces the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. By joining the YMCA, you as a member are agreeing to these values. If at any time your behavior does not support these values, the YMCA has the right to revoke your membership status.
- Members are expected to comply with all YMCA policies as stated on our website.
- The YMCA promotes a safe, welcoming environment for all members and guests, therefore you shall:
- Always act appropriately in a mature and responsible manner
- Respect the rights and dignity of others
- Refrain from language or any action that can hurt or frighten another person or that falls below a generally accepted standard of conduct
- Be responsible for your personal comfort and safety and ask any person whose behavior threatens your comfort to refrain. If you feel uncomfortable in confronting the person directly, report the behavior to a staff person – director or supervisor on duty.
- Prohibited actions specifically include:
- Indecent or unsafe attire
- Smoking and the use of e-cigarettes/vapes, the YMCA is a smoke-free environment. This includes our outdoor property.
- Having any glass containers in the building, the YMCA is a glass-free facility
- Verbally abusive behavior, including profanity, angry language, name-calling or shouting
- Physical contact with another person—including pushing, shoving, or roughhousing of any kind—that may pose a danger or threat of harm
- Any demonstration of sexual activity or sexual contact with another person
- Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language or any menacing behavior
- Theft or behavior that results in destruction of property
- Carrying or concealing any weapons or devices or objects that can be used as weapons
- Using or possessing illegal chemicals or alcohol on YMCA property or YMCA-sponsored programs
- Using video/photography devices throughout the locker rooms or Aquatics area.
- Members and guests shall identify themselves when asked.
Gym Attire & Gym Bags

- Appropriate workout attire is required
- Non-marking, closed-toe athletic shoes must be worn in all fitness areas
- Crocs, flip flops, or sandals are not allowed
- For your safety, please store all personal items including gym bags, keys, wallet, purse, extra clothes, etc. in the locker room in a locker with a lock.
- We are not responsible for lost or stolen items
Non-YMCA Trainer Policy

To maintain the integrity of our programs and ensure the safety of all members, only certified West Morris Area YMCA trainers are permitted to provide personal training or coaching services within our facilities.
- No Outside Trainers: Non-YMCA trainers are not allowed to conduct personal training, group sessions, or coaching on YMCA premises.
- Member-to-Member Coaching: Members may not offer paid or unpaid training services to other members.
- Facility Use: Use of YMCA equipment and space for non-YMCA business purposes, including training or coaching, is strictly prohibited.

Staff Discretion

- YMCA Staff has the discretion to enforce these policies
- YMCA Staff will intervene in any activity or equipment usage that is deemed inappropriate, improper, or dangerous
- YMCA staff decision is final
