Summer Day Camp
RANDOLPH TWP. - The staff at the Randolph YMCA is benefiting from an Eagle Scout project led by Robert Brink, who will soon receive the organization’s prestigious ranking.
Over the course of two weekends, Brink, his family and other scouts and their families built an outdoor recreation area.
The new recreation area includes picnic tables and benches for the YMCA staff to use.
“I knew early in my scouting life that I wanted to become an Eagle Scout, and that my project would benefit the Y,” Brink said. ” I wanted to give back to a place that helped me to develop into the person I am.”
Troop 67
A member of Boy Scout Troop 67 in Wharton, Brink is a Senior Patrol Leader and part of The Order of the Arrow.
Membership in the Order of the Arrow is reserved as special honor for a select group of Boy Scouts who excel in leadership.
Brink said he is proud receiving his Eagle Scout rank soon.
Roughly, only four percent of Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle.
Active Member
Robert was at the YMCA virtually every day participating in swimming, karate and summer camp while he was growing up.
This past summer he was a counselor at the YMCA’s day camp, leading children in fun and educational activities.
Randolph YMCA
The YMCA’s staff has been enjoying the new picnic tables and benches, according to Bill Lamia, CEO of the Randolph YMCA.
“The staff uses the area to eat lunch and relax during breaks,” Lamia said. “When Robert approached me about his Eagle Scout project, a space that the staff can call their own resonated with both of us.”
Brink is a sophomore at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway where he plays on the school’s varsity and junior varsity football teams.
“Robert is a well-rounded and responsible young man” Lamia said. “The Y is proud to have been such an important part of his life and we are proud of him.”
