ANDOLPH, NJ-On Saturday, Sept. 19 The Randolph YMCA celebrated their 35th anniversary.  A public BBQ party was held in the back of the Y with food, games, and fun for all.

The Y has been a fixture in the Randolph community since moving here from Dover 35 years ago.  Past volunteer board president Les Bartley, the man responsible for making the move into town was present and honored at the party.

CEO Bill Lamia explained the philosophy behind the Y stating, "The Y is so much more than a gym, it's a cause, and our cause is strengthening the community."

Mayor Jim Loveys, and town council members were on hand, joining Assemblyman Anthony Buco and Tony Bucco Junior.  They thanked the Y for all of their contributions to the community. Bucco Junior took a moment to flash his YMCA membership card, and let everyone know how much he enjoys being a member and using the facilities.

Mayor Loveys announced to the crowd that the YMCA was coming on board as an official emergency service partner for the township.  Loveys explained, “"The Y opened its doors to the community in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy and the two previous October storms, so it was a natural progression to recognize and formalize the Y's contribution to our residents.”

"Thanks to Bill Lamia and all those at the Randolph YMCA for sharing in this initiative and aiding our Office of Emergency Management with those preparations that help make Randolph a safer community in which to live," concluded the Mayor.

The party was planned and organized by Jordan Heyman, administrative ambassador for the Randolph Y.  Heyman was pleased with the way the day turned out, stating, "The barbecue was a great way to get everyone out to celebrate the work we do here at the Randolph YMCA. We are a charity first and a gym second."

Some of the family members spoke about their great experiences being members of the Y.  One member explained, “I was having nerve problems in my back and legs.  Joining the Y for workouts and swimming helped to alleviate my pain.  I love everyone here, they have been a great help to me.”

The YMCA has an endless amount of programs and services for the community, including swimming lessons, open basketball, workout rooms, and summer camps for local children.

Lamia spoke of some less known programs, "We have a special needs swim program called Kaleidoscope, A program called RAP, which is a special program for at risk youth, and we have a strong partnership with Easter Seals New Jersey."

The proceeds from the Birthday bash will go to benefit the Y's annual support fund.  This fund provides financial assistance to community members who could not afford the membership programs.

Lamia delivered a final message for the community, "At the Y we strive each and every day to provide quality staff, facilities, and programs that help build a healthy community.  The Y is open to all regardless of income or background."
